SB243 was voted ought to pass 5-0 by the Senate Public and Municipal Affairs Committee this week. This bill extends the exemption for non-public meetings on lawsuits and legal claims to include those initiated by public bodies or agencies.  The committee approved the bill without amendment.

The report on the bill from the committee was written by San. Nancy Stiles:

This bill clarifies the exception allowing a municipal body to go into nonpublic session when discussing litigation in which the municipality is involved. It will prevent unnecessary and costly determinations surrounding the ability of a municipality to appropriately strategize when bringing forward a lawsuit.

This bill now goes to the full Senate for a vote.
